  1. Good Morning! I hope the beginning of your vacation is off to a great start! I am back from my lake house and I am just chillin' today with my kiddos...the weather has cooled off so a bike ride might be in store later. I think I would rather ride a horse though-ha!

I am blogging on Monday morning (a day early) because I have a character problem and solutions to write about......

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 2

Problem: Ada doesn't know who she belongs to or what the next "arrangements" will be now that Mam has died.

Possible Solution #1: Ada can talk to Susan about staying with her.

Possible Solution #2: Ada can talk to her brother Jamie about searching for a new home while she waits to get out of the hospital.

I can't believe she will be in the hospital a few months! Yikes!

HAPPY ("Riding") READING!!!! Get it....horse back "riding"! Ha!

  2. Good Morning!

    WE ARE IN OUR CABIN!

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 2

Problem: Ada does not know what family she is in, is it both or just one, Susan's or Mam's.
It can't be Mam's because she died and we found out that she thinks they are now orphans.

Solution 1: She could ask Susan who she belonged to, because Susan gives reasonable answers

Solution 2: Go to the police station and ask for advice?

Solution 3: She could ask Jamie what he is thinking and is it the same this as Ada?

I understand that she is recovering but a couple months is, A LOT!

  4. Good Afternoon!
We just went fishing and caught 8 keepers, and ate them for lunch.

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 3

Problem: Ada found out that her mom had died and had been cremated😲😲😲😲!

    Solution 1: Glue them together

Solution 2: She could be so surprised that she would cry.

Solution 3: Make a friend and talk to them about it.

Problem: Ada needed to go to the bathroom/pee while she was in the hospital bed.

Solution 1: Ada could pee in her pants

Solution 2: Ada could ask a nurse to help her

Solution 3: Ada could go and get out of bed, even when she was forbidden to do so.

    1. #1 Ada thought that when Susan said "ARRANGEMENTS" she thought it was for getting rid of the kids. But actually it was for her mothers body, like what to do with her body.

#2 I was right Ada got out of bed, when she was forbid to, go to the bathroom.

  6. BLOG LOG: Chapter 4

    Problem:
Ada does not know if she is going to the orphanage and she does not know if Jamie is coming with her.

Solution 1: Ask Susan if that is true because she gives reasonable answers.

Solution 2: Send a letter to Lady Thornton and wait for her reply.

Solution 3: Stay quiet and keep it to yourself.

    😬😬😬😬😬😬😬

I thought it was cool that Ada walked for the first time in a couple months. I also thought it was cool that her foot was good as new, but it would not ever bend the same way as a regular foot.

  7. BLOG LOG: Chapter 5

    Problem:
Ada is home sick, she misses Susan's old house and more importantly BUTTER.

    πŸ πŸ€’(Home Sick)

Solution 1: Write a letter and not send it, just to feel better.

Solution 2: Spend more time with the people that she is with and absorb what is happening now and enjoy it.

Solution 3: Hug Susan or Jamie, and delete all of their differences.

  8. Problem: Billy White, Stephan White's Brother was evacuated by the Nazis, were escorted to death.

Solution 1: Plan a Memorial Service.

Solution 2: 'let it all out' let out all of her crying.

Solution 3: Bring friends that are still alive together.

  10. Wow! 8 keepers!! That is awesome you got to eat what you caught. Were the fish tasty? Do you have a favorite horse you ride? If so, what's its name? Is it Butter...ha!

You have blogged A LOT! Remember you don't have to find a problem for every chapter. Just on the days we blog choose a problem that you have read about. But if you like blogging more, feel free! I just wanted to remind you of that. I like the solutions you mentioned.....and some of them were right! πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜Š

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 9
Problem: It was mentioned a couple of times that the cottage they are staying in is empty and Susan makes bad tea because they are very poor and cannot afford hardly anything.

Solution #1: Maybe Ada can get a job helping with the horses to raise more money?
Solution #2: Maybe she can talk to Lady Thorton about helping out Susan a little more since now she is Ada and Jamie's legal guardian. (This option might be scary!)
Solution #3: Apply to work at one of the local stores and help Susan out that way. Maybe a grocery store can pay Ada in food instead of money and she could help the family eat better.

I can't believe Jamie broke his arm climbing a tree. You could tell how much Ada cares for her brother when she didn't leave his side!

    HAPPY READING!😎

  13. BLOG LOG: Chapter 9

Problem: Jamie was a target for something and he got shot, Ada thinks he is dead. But Susan thinks he is alive because he is still breathing. 😭😲😒

Solution 1: They could call an ambulance, if they exist?πŸš‘πŸ₯πŸš‘πŸ₯

Solution 2: They could ask Lady Thornton if she is in contact of a nurse or a doctor.😷😷😷

    Solution 3: Let him DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!😭😭😭

  14. Solution 2

I know that I sound not blog every day but this is important!

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 11

Problem: Susan made this beautiful doll for Ada for Christmas, and she did not except it because she thought it was for 'other girls'.

Solution 1: Susan could tell Ada to take a break.

Solution 2: Susan could find something else that Ada likes.

Solution 3: Susan could say you will have no present this year.

  15. BLOG LOG: Chapter 16

Problem: Lady Thornton is moving into her house with Ada, Susan, and Jamie and he daughter Maggie. And Ada does not what it to happen.

Solution 1: Be nice and make friends

Solution 2: Be Thankful that they at least have a place to stay.

Solution 3: Deal with it because the worst that Lady Thornton can do is get them out of her house, so Susan can not do anything.

  16. Great blogging on those problems in the story! I was surprised that Ada didn't want to share a room with Maggie since she liked her so much. But after hearing her reasoning she explained to Susan, I totally understand her! Lady Thorton does what she wants and does not ask the opinions of others!

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 16

Problem: Lord Thorton came over and gave Susan the job of teaching Ruth (a German) math skills. Lady Thorton does not like the idea of a German in her house. And Lady Thorton was basically kicked out of her own home because of the government! Yikes!

Solution 1:Lady Thorton could sit down with Lord Thorton so she can understand why he needs Susan to do this work and explain why this girl needs these skills.

Solution 2: Lady Thorton could say that it is not a possibility and say say it is Ruth or her who stays in this house. She could not allow Susan to do the tutoring.

Solution 3: Allow Susan to do the tutoring, but treat Ruth badly and make Ruth want to leave their home.

Solution 4: Allow Susan to do the tutoring, but try and find things out about the Germans and act as a spy.

I like the way the author ended this chapter, she made me very curious about this girl Ruth and her purpose in the story......

    HAPPY READING πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘Œ

  17. BLOG LOG: Chapter 21

Problem: Ada doesn't want to trust or know what to think about the new girl Ruth. Ruth believes in Judaism and Ada believes in Christianity.

Solution 1: Ada can read more about Judaism and have more conversations about this with Ruth to understand it more.

Solution 2: She can choose to think differently than Ruth about religion and stop speaking to her.

Solution 3: She can just ignore Ruth and try to figure out different religions on her own.

I wish Ada would understand that people believe different things and take her to the horse stables and enjoy the things that they do have in common. I know the war with Germany is difficult to get passed, but I feel she needs to look at Ruth as innocent in it all.

    HAPPY READING😎✨😎

  18. Sorry I am a little behind on reading and blogging. I am still recovering from coming home from vacation.

    BLOG LOG:Chapter 21

Problem: Ruth thinks that Ada and Jamie are crazy to not know what religion they believe in.

Solution 1: Have someone stand up for them

Solution 2: Ask Susan the correct answer.

Solution 3: Say stop and walk tot heir rooms.

    1. Good Morning! I am a day behind my reading as well. We had a five day vacation and I understand the recovery needed from vacation...ha! I hope you are still enjoying what's left of summer. I know I am trying to soak up every moment!

My favorite part in these chapters was the fact that Susan spoke up and told Lady Thorton and the whole family (including Ruth) that they have to work together and not create a war inside of their home. I love that she spoke up and got some help around the house!

      BLOG LOG: Chapter 28

Problem: Maggie did not want to go back to school because she loved being around Ada and her family. It would be really difficult to not be surrounded by your family in a time of war!

Solution 1: She could try to talk to Lady Thorton about Susan teaching her. She tried this but she didn't go into details and talk to her school about giving Susan school materials to home school her. She could have dug deeper with the conversation.

Solution 2: She could go back to school and get the materials she needs and bring it home to Susan.

Solution 3: She could see if their is a closer school near by where she doesn't have to stay away. Maybe their is somewhere she could go just during the days like we have here?

Solution 4: If Lady Thorton says that Maggie is safer at school than at home, she could take Ada with her to her school and they could learn and be together there. I think Ada would love this as she enjoys learning about new things all the time!

  19. Good Morning! It's Saturday morning and I should have blogged on Thursday, but I had to go into work that day and I never made it to the BLOG. I hope you are enjoying the last days of summer and catching up on your reading. Are you enjoying the book? I think the characters are interesting and I am at the edge of my seat over Jonathan flying and fighting the Germans. I couldn't imagine life like that back then.

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 32

Problem: Ada just asked Ruth to go to the stables with her! This is a problem because this is against Lady Thorton's rules!

Solution 1: Lady Thorton is respecting Ruth more and she won't say a thing to either of the girls. She might choose to accept it, but ignore it at the same time.

Solution: Lady Thorton will be upset because a German should not ride their horses. She might argue with Ada when they return home. She will tell Ruth she can never go again.

Solution 3: Lady Thorton could go to the stables with the girls next time! She could show Ruth around her stables and teach Ruth about the horses. Not sure Lady Thorton would be that respectful and nice to Ruth?!

  21. Ya sorry I have been reading but I was so crushed into my schedule because I am starting middle school on Thursday this week.

    BLOG LOG: Chapter 28

Problem: Maggie enjoyed staying with Ada and Jamie and their family that she did not want to go back to school.

Solution: Maggie could schedule a date with Ada and her family to get together.

Solution: Susan could home school her so that she did not have to leave.

Solution: She could just go to school and forgive and forgot.

  23. I hope you have had a great first week of Middle School! How was it!!!??? Did you remember your locker lock code? Did you find all of your classes ok? How do you like having all different teachers for different subjects? Do you have a favorite or least favorite teacher? I have soooo many questions for you!

I am finishing the readings from this week now (I got behind because of school too), so I will right about the problems and my solutions in just a bit....be right back!

  24. BLOG LOG: Chapter 41

Problem: Lady Thorton is keeping the anger inside of her because her son Jonathan died in the war. I can't believe he died!!! πŸ˜’

Solution 1: Maybe a horse would help her....take a ride daily on her horses. It might remind her of her son and give her some therapy.

Solution 2: Talk more to the people in her house and don't keep her feelings in as much.

What a hard time this is, I am glad that Maggie was able to come home when she got this terrible news.

These were a few hard chapters to read. I also don't like hearing that Maggie is so thin and frail. That also shows she is not sleeping and eating properly since this news. Ugh!
